Prescription Drug Disposal
Destroy unused medications quickly and easily at home with Deterra® Drug Deactivation and Disposal Pouches. Deterra Pouches are proven to destroy unwanted and expired medications safely and permanently, making them unavailable for misuse, theft or accidental ingestion. Deterra’s plant-based pouches prevent harmful drugs from entering our landfills and water systems, making the world safer for everyone.
Simple three-step process can rid any home of dangerous, leftover drugs in less than three minutes. Safe way to discard medications, preventing still-potent drugs from contaminating the water supply. Works on prescription (Rx) or over the counter (OTC) pills, patches, liquids, creams and films.

Montgomery County ESD 4/ Needham Fire Rescue also offers a free, year-round medication disposal program to help prevent medication misuse and protect the environment. Through this mail-back envelope system, residents can safely dispose of unused or expired prescriptions—no postage, return address, or cost required.
Instead of throwing medications in the trash or flushing them down the drain, residents are encouraged to use these envelopes as a safer, more responsible option. This program is especially helpful for elderly or homebound residents, as a family member, friend, or neighbor can pick up an extra envelope on their behalf.
